Given the amount of press that the Black Panther/Storm wedding has generated for Marvel, was DC Comics stupid to keep Nightwing's marriage proposal to Barbara Gordon a secret? I mean, the average man or woman on the street is going to relate to a Robin/Batgirl union a lot more than to the merger of any two Marvel characters.

It actually seems like smarter marketing to me. Let's say DC did heavily promote that issue of Nightwing on the grounds that "Robin proposes to Batgirl." What would your average, non-comics reader see in that issue? Some guy named Nightwing proposing to some gal named Oracle. And then, in the next issue, rather than see the marriage, it's "one year later" and it's not even the same guy going around calling himself Nightwing. It would feel like a cheat, a bait and switch.
